United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is appalled by the terrorist attacks targeting United Nations personnel in Gao, Mali whom are serving with the UN to help restore stability and peace for the people of Mali. Targets have included a UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) camp in Mali and camps of other UN contractors in other areas of the city from China, France, and Mali. The Secretary-General is calling on the Government of Mali, its partners, and the people of Mali to provide information to the authorities so that investigations can be done quickly and the assailants held accountable.
In a similar vein, the Secretary-General also condemned the attack on Ethiopian troops at an African Union Mission (AMISOM) based in Halgan, Somalia.
